Bluesky’s quest to be the next Twitter

Bluesky hit 15 million users this week. And then 16 million. The vibes on Bluesky are immaculate, and it seems to have a real and renewed chance to be the place that replaces Twitter for a lot of people. But then there’s Threads, which grew by approximately one Bluesky just this month. There is also Mastodon, which is still hanging around, and of course, there is X. There are more options than ever, and it is more confusing than ever.

On this episode of The Vergecast, The Verge tried to make sense of all this change. Will all this new growth and momentum help Bluesky grow not just as an app but as a decentralized protocol? Is it a real threat to ActivityPub and the notion of the fediverse? Do we know yet what kind of social network wants to be? And if you are looking for a place to post, like, reply, and read, where should you go? They do not have all the answers, but they have plenty of ideas.

Pinterest Reaches New Record High for Users in Q3

Pinterest has shared its latest performance update, posting a solid increase in revenue, and reaching a new record high in usage. Which has the platform well-placed for the holiday shopping surge.

First off, on active users, Pinterest added 15 million more users in Q3, taking it to 537 million MAU. Which is a significant rise in its growth momentum versus Q2, where it only added 4 million more actives.

I mean, that is all relative, as 4 million is still a significant number of people who are regularly coming to the app. But in social media growth terms, 4 million is minor, but 15 million is a far more positive result for the app.

Reaching a new usage high is also significant in terms of Pinterest’s broader growth story, because the platform did came off the rails there for a little bit.
